At school, Lily was good at maths and science, but she didn't know what to do with her skills. She chose engineering at UTAS because she didn’t have to choose a specialisation right away. She went on to focus on civil engineering, completing an Honours year and now a PhD.

Civil Engineers work across many forms of infrastructure; either planning, designing, analysing or overseeing projects for growing cities. You can help positively impact the world by pushing the boundaries and creating solutions.

Whether you're interested in above ground or below ground infrastructure, this Graduate Certificate offers the job ready skills you need to develop your career in Civil Engineering. Learn about concrete structures, engineering geology, steel and timber materials/structures, water supply and more, while getting you up to speed on the Australian Standards for structural design.

If you want to be in with the next generation of professionals who are capable of modern engineered solutions that are sustainable, economically feasible, safe, and appropriate to context and purpose, then this course is suited to you.

This Certificate provides a pathway into the Master of Professional Engineering with all four units as advanced standing. Students can transition into the Civil and Structural Specialisation only by using advanced standing against core and elective units.

Please visit our Certificates page for answers to frequently asked questions about the Job Ready Certificates.

Career outcomes

The Graduate Certificate in Civil Engineering is an excellent opportunity to advance your engineering career. You will gain job ready skills with the ability to think logically and analytically about the complexities of civil engineering projects.

Civil Engineers play a part in making big decisions in numerous industries such as construction, roads and major infrastructure as well as transport, public safety and many more. The career outlook for Civil Engineers is strong with predicted growth for the occupation set to rise by 21.9%.

In addition to developing job-ready skills and a foundational understanding of civil engineering practices, you'll also have the option to continue your studies into the Master of Professional Engineering (Civil and Structural). This Masters course is an accredited degree, giving you the qualifications to practice as a Professional Engineer around the world.
