Global Logistics and Maritime Management student
Due to the circumstances around COVID-19, you will begin your studies online. However, when Government guidelines change, on-campus studies will be reintroduced.
The Australian Maritime College’s three-year Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management degree is designed to prepare students for management careers in the dynamic and internationally-focused maritime and logistics industries.

Ninety per cent of world trade is sent via the oceans, and it takes specialist skills to manage this vast industry. Global logistics and maritime management professionals are in demand around the world, and careers extend beyond the ports to policy, finance and insurance, and national security and customs.

This specialist business degree will provide you with high-level expertise and knowledge of maritime business in the global arena, international logistics services and strategies, as well as the structuring, operation and coordination of supply chains. Our program will equip graduates with the ability to contribute substantially to strategic decision making to maintain, enhance and drive these industries now and into the future.

Our Global Logistics and Maritime Management degree provides unmatched opportunities to engage directly with leaders from Australian and International maritime and logistics industries. You will learn from highly qualified teaching staff and invited speakers from logistics and maritime professions, industry workshops, and experience frequent site visits to warehouses and seaports.

The Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management provides graduates with high-level expertise and knowledge to understand the maritime business in the global arena, the world-wide spanning logistics services and strategies, as well as the structuring, operation and coordination of supply chains.

While exposing students to principles in financial management, international business, human resource management and strategic management, the course offers a clear focus on key components of the maritime and logistics industries, such as port management, logistics, supply chains, warehousing, procurement. It expands also to key principles in maritime economics, commercial, transport and maritime law.

With a focus on an applied approach to these critical areas, centred on strategic and analytical thinking and decision making skills, the course provides a unique educational experience with high level of relevance to specific global shipping and logistics industries. The program aims to produce graduates able to contribute substantially to strategic decision making to maintain, enhance and drive these industries now and into the future.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management degree will:

  1. Build broad and coherent body of knowledge, with depth in the underlying principles and concepts in global logistics and maritime management as a basis for independent lifelong learning
  2. Develop cognitive, analytical, and creative skills to analyse consolidate and synthesize knowledge in the global logistics and maritime management domain
  3. Perform critical thinking and solve diverse and complex problems in the global logistics and maritime management, incorporating social, ethical, regulatory, and global perspectives
  4. Present a clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge, concepts and ideas relevant to global logistics and maritime management
  5. Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for self-directed autonomous learning and professional practice in the global logistics and maritime management context in collaboration with others

We maintain close links with prospective employers and industry associations to ensure you can access opportunities that support your career development. We will connect you with professionals from the maritime and logistics industries at our annual industry forum. Since 2018, the Maritime & Logistics Management Industry Forum has provided a medium for students to speak with senior managers from Tasmanian and interstate companies such as TasPorts, Agility Logistics, Toll Group, Australian National Lines (ANL), and Patrick Stevedore.  In addition to networking with industry professionals, attending the Forum will also enable you to learn about the scope of employment prospects available to those who graduate with AMC’s Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management.

As such, it is critical that they are managed by highly trained individuals and teams who can lead the development, implementation and control of sound contemporary management practices.

The Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management prepares students for management and senior administrative careers in private enterprises, industry organisations and governments. As a graduate of this degree program, you can be confident that the skills, knowledge and networks you’ve acquired through study will allow you to succeed in a diverse range of areas: commercial shipping, ports and terminals, transport, transport policy and administration, freight forwarding, exporting and importing, logistics and supply chains, and other elements of international business.

Course structure

Our course combines core business principles with learning that is specific to maritime management and global logistics. With a focus on delivering practical learning experiences, centred on strategic and analytical thinking and decision-making skills. Our course will equip you with a specialist business skill set and an in-depth appreciation of the issues confronting the global logistics and maritime industries.

In choosing a three-year Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management you will study:

Business units such as financial resource management, exporting and importing, international business management, analytical methods for decision-making, and strategic management.

Maritime units such as ship operations management, chartering and brokering, maritime economics, port and terminal management, maritime law.

Logistics units such as international transport systems, logistics management, supply chain management, warehousing and distribution, and global procurement.

Domestic applicants

Domestic applicants who have recently completed secondary education (in the past two years)

Applicants are ranked by ATAR and offers made based on the number of places available. In 2019, the lowest ATAR to receive an offer into this course was 65.3. The lowest ATAR to receive an offer may change from year to year based on the number of applications we receive.

All other domestic applicants

To be eligible for an offer, you must meet the University’s General Entry Requirements based on your prior studies and experience.

Special consideration

If your ability to access or participate in education has been affected by circumstances beyond your control, you can apply for special consideration as part of your application. We will consider a range of factors, including economic hardship, serious medical condition or disability.

We can only approve applications for special consideration where we are confident that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in your studies. If your application is not approved, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best alternative pathway to your chosen course. Special consideration is not available for international applicants.

International applicants

You may be eligible for advanced standing (i.e. credit points) in this degree if you:

  • Have completed an award such as a Diploma or Advanced Diploma from TAFE or another institution;
  • Are currently studying another Bachelor degree at the University or at another institution;
  • Have completed a Bachelor degree at the University or an equivalent award from another institution.

Students who graduate with any of the approved exit awards of the Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management may return to or continue to the higher level award with full credit for units completed.

Students may articulate to P3E with credit of up to 16 units (200 credit points) on the basis of complete or incomplete study in the Diploma in MLM (J1B), Associate Degree in MLM (J2B), Bachelor of MLM (J3X), P1E Diploma of Global Logistics and Maritime Management or P2E Associate Degree in Global Logistics and Maritime Management  if they have been enrolled in those courses in study periods later than or inclusive of Semester 1, 2013. Eligibility for credit for study falling outside of these time-frames will be assessed in line with the University's standard credit guidelines.

Students who have successfully completed the Associate Degree in Applied Business (Supply Chain Management) (Z2D), through the University College, are able to articulate to the Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management, with two year's block credit.

If you do not meet the minimum ATAR you should consider enrolment in the Diploma of University Studies (Business Specialisation) or Diploma of Global Logistics and Maritime Management as a pathway to this degree:

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
