By undertaking Honours student will gain knowledge, skills, competencies and awareness in preparation for employment in agricultural research organisations and businesses as well as for higher degree research.
Course objectives
The BAgrSc(Hons) program aims to provide:
- Advanced knowledge and scientific training in a specialised area of agricultural science;
- Training in research as preparation for employment in a research organisation or for postgraduate study in Master or PhD programs.
Work placement
Career outcomes
Students are well prepared for employment in research and other positions with industry, government and business organisations. An Honours degree also enables graduates to apply to undertake a Masters or PhD degree.
Professional Recognition
Graduates of the course are eligible for membership of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology (AIAST)
Course structure
Honours candidature is by invitation only. Honours students must enrol in KLA476 Agricultural Science Honours Thesis A and KLA477 Agricultural Science Honours Thesis B (making up the balance to 100%) with four other advanced level units. Students with less than 100% loading may still be eligible for enrolment in the course.
Assessment of Honours is based on the combination of formal coursework (50%) and project thesis (50%) of the 4th-year program.
Note:
Three copies of the thesis must be submitted to the secretary by the first week in December. The Honours thesis should be completed according to the notes and instructions available from the Honours coordinator.
There shall be the following grades of Honours: 1st Class; 2nd Class, Upper Division; 2nd Class, Lower Division; 3rd Class.
Students may withdraw from Honours up to the end of semester 1 without penalty. However, to complete their degree, they must, in semester 2, enrol in suitable units to make up the balance, one of which may include an extensive literature review (KLA483) which will be subject to an examination, possibly including a viva voce. (The topic of the literature review is to be decided after consultation with appropriate staff).

Entry requirements
Admission Prerequisites
Prospective Honours students must gain a minimum 65% credit average in Year 3 of the BAgrSc course. Eligible students will be notified of their acceptance following publication of Year-3 results.
Articulation from
Candidates with other tertiary studies may be granted status for work completed and deemed appropriate to this degree.
Articulation to
Honours graduates may apply for entry into a Masters or PhD degree.

Fees & scholarships
Domestic students
Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
