Materials Engineering ENG223

Introduction

The unit aims to provide civil and mechanical engineering students with the tools necessary to systematically select appropriate materials for a particular application. This process will build upon knowledge of fundamental material properties developed by students in KAA113 - Materials Technology to enable students to identify appropriate materials for a given application. In addition to selecting materials based on their mechanical properties, this unit will aim to provide students with an understanding of how materials are processed into the forms required by a design and how processing can feed back into material selection and design. This unit will also address specialist topics relevant to mechanical and civil engineers including durability, the environmental implications of material selection, and how to address material selection when there are multiple competing objectives.

Note

Please check that your computer meets the minimum System Requirements if you are attending via Distance/Off-Campus.

Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.
