Channel Flow and Hydraulic Structures ENG712

Hobart

Introduction

This unit of explores the principles of uniform flow in open channels (Bernoulli equation; surface waves, the significance of Froude). These will be extended into a study of the principles of slowly varying and rapidly varying flow, the calculation of backwater curves and hydraulic jumps. The studied principles will then be applied to the design of hydraulic structures. The syllabus also covers the use of commercial software to design hydraulic structures.
