Networking and Antennas ENG749
Introduction
This unit studies and explores communication technology among multiple users. The layered network model will be discussed with emphasis on those widely applied such as wired and wireless networks in the real world. Both technical aspects of communication networks such as radio propagation and transmission line theory for antenna design, as well as significant applications around Internet of Things will be explored. Students will be exposed to networking technologies and hands-on experience on some critical hardware and system design aspects. This unit will enable students to be familiar with, explore, and appreciate modern communication networks and technology.

Note
Please check that your computer meets the minimum System Requirements if you are attending via Distance/Off-Campus.
Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.
Key Dates

Learning Outcomes
- Apply principles of computer and data networks, including layered structure, protocol and its functionalities, administration and control.
- Design complex wired or wireless data networks for an application with a diverse range of requirements and equipment in line with modern technologies.
- Evaluate computer and data networks performance by analysis and experiments or simulation.
- Analyse wave propagation characteristics on distributed media to solve typical problems involving transmission lines.
