Note

Please check that your computer meets the minimum System Requirements if you are attending via Distance/Off-Campus.

Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.

Special approval is required for enrolment into TNE Program units.

TNE Program units special approval requirements.

* The Final WW Date is the final date from which you can withdraw from the unit without academic penalty, however you will still incur a financial liability (see withdrawal dates explained for more information).

About Census Dates

Learning Outcomes

ILO 1 Use basic approaches to simple design tasks involving design considerations, constraints, process and management and apply the design approach to a particular design problem.

ILO 2 Use manual sketching and CAD as a means of expressing and communicating an engineering design to AS1100 standards.

ILO 3 Function effectively individually and in teams while developing creativity, problem solving, communication, reflective practice and decision-making techniques.

ILO 4 Demonstrate an effective, professional level of technical communication and support collaborative peer group learning. ILO 5 Describe the importance of ethics and safety in engineering design, and embed these issues into the design processes.

Teaching

Teaching Pattern

Newnham Campus: 2 Hour Lecture Weekly, 2 Hour Lab Workshop, Build Studio as required.

Cradle Coast Campus: Lectures will be delivered offline, with weekly on-campus tutorials.

Cradle Coast Campus Students:  We strongly recommend to all students (in particular Cradle Coast campus students) that to get the best outcome of the unit, you should physically attend the lectures in the Newnham (Launceston) campus.  However, all lectures are recorded and will be made available on MyLO (subject to availability).  For missed recordings due to external factors beyond the lecturer's control, all reasonable efforts will be made to rectify the situation arising from this.

Assessment

Team Contract (15%), CAD Portfolio (20%), Engineering Notebook (15%) and Design Challenge (50%)
