Introduction

Before getting into the details of track and all its complexities, it is important that you become aware of the broad range of functions and components of a railway, the many operational sections which keep the train system operating,and the material properties from which the components are made. The investigation into how those sections affect the work you will do in track engineering. Nothing happens in isolation in the modern railway, with finances and public relations being as important as a good quality track in keeping customers using your railway.

4. Explain track behaviour, defect development and important consequences of the dynamic interaction between track components
