Introduction

This unit provides an introduction to the ocean environment and the role of maritime engineers in the design of maritime infrastructure. The unit covers essential elementary knowledge of marine sciences, types of marine crafts and maritime structures, marine systems, and ocean renewable energy technology. The unit also introduces the student to the application of project management concepts and tools within the broader maritime engineering context.

  • Recognise the importance of ethics and sustainable engineering practice and argue their implications within the roles of engineers in the society.
