Learning Outcomes
- Explain the theories and methods of measuring temperature, pressure, flow and level, operating principles of components of maritime control systems including sensors, transducers, transmitters, actuators, controllers, signal conditioning units, signal processing and interfacing with other devices;
- Apply engineering principles, mathematical representations (including differential equations, transfer functions and state space model), block diagrams and control theory to characterise maritime control systems and their components and analyse their stability and performance;
- Design and analyse automatic maritime control systems and/or with hardware including data acquisition and I/O interfacing devices such as PLCs and CAN buses and software by applying PID, modern and intelligent control laws in control systems used in marine and offshore industries; and
- Use LabVIEW and/or MATLAB/Simulink (as required) as a tool for design, simulation, system identification and modelling, operation and analysis of performance of the designed maritime control systems against the pre-defined specifications.
