Research Project (Part:1/2) JEE418

Introduction

Students develop, implement and carry out a research project under the supervision of at least one staff member from the National Centre for Maritime Engineering and Hydrodynamics or UTAS. The progress and outcomes of the research are assessed in the form of a research proposal, interim report, executive summary, oral presentation and a written thesis in journal article format. JEE418 is offered in combination with JEE419. Assessment of the project plan and interim report in JEE418 is on a pass/fail basis and is required to continue onto JEE419.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply original thinking and develop a research plan to an open ended problem.
  • Develop and research a solution to the given problem by using an experiment, and/or a computer program/simulation, and/or any other methodology approved by the supervisor.
  • Summarize and document the problem, the applied methodology and the conclusions obtained from the developed research plan to professional written and oral standards.
  • Explain, discuss and defend the investigation process and outcome of the Research Project to a group of peers with an oral presentation.
