Courses & Units
Design Project (Part:1/2) JEE421
This unit is taken over a full year with JEE422. This unit can only be undertaken once students have completed all year 3 units or with permission from Course Coordinator.
Introduction
This is the capstone design unit for all three BE degrees streams (NA, OE, MOE). This unit consolidates the knowledge and capabilities developed through previous years of study. Maritime engineering design involves developing complex solutions through the combined inputs of various discipline specialists. This unit develops further management skills including, the ability to work with team members from other fields of study.

Note
Please check that your computer meets the minimum System Requirements if you are attending via Distance/Off-Campus.
Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.

Learning Outcomes
- Develop the steps in the execution of an engineering-design project: a. For the given objective(s), constraints, and requirements identify the appropriate design parameters, assumptions, and alternatives; b. Apply discipline-specific technical concepts to select the appropriate design option(s) of an ocean vehicle, structure, or system; c. Apply the appropriate engineering methodology to evaluate the design options and develop the selected option into a final design; d. Critically assess the design and its execution, and recommend potential improvements, if any.
- Establish, monitor and review your own system of time and resource management to ensure progress and maintain the integrity of the design output in a functional multi-disciplinary team;
- Develop written and oral technical communication skills.
