This unit provides students with the skills required to ensure that their engineering projects are thoroughly planned, well managed and successful. It focuses on project management methods, skills and strategies. Students develop their knowledge through the application of these new skills to maritime engineering projects.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the concepts, tools, ethics and terminology used in the management of engineering projects.
  • Prepare, analyze and interpret preliminary and detailed project plans, using both manual methods and project management software.
  • Manage risks, meetings and negotiations with stakeholders and make key decisions during the planning and execution phases of a project.
  • Gain experience in managing the non-technical elements of engineering projects (teamwork, management and leadership).
  • Author project management documentation and ensure that important communications are distributed correctly.
  • Demonstrate professional practices by applying project management skills to a real-world case.
