Introduction
The aim of this unit is to provide an introduction to shipping markets, and to illustrate the strategies, principles and practice of commercial ship management. The unit is arranged in 12 modules. It starts by examining shipping freight markets. Ship chartering and charterparties are essential elements of commercial ship management and therefore a significant portion of this unit is devoted to these topics and their interrelation with shipping strategies. The unit also considers the role of liner shipping and shipping logistics and goes on to examine the common procedures and documentation involved in liner shipping. Finally, the unit briefly considers the topic of shipping and ecological sustainability.
