Introduction

The unit integrates Watchkeeping theory, practical application and problem solving exercises involving the use of the Integrated Marine Simulator. Students will also develop skills and knowledge to carry out watchkeeping procedures, respond to potential collision and emergency situations, IALA Buoyage System, maintain and accurate record in the vessels log, and Bridge Resource Management. Students will also have the knowledge of basic manoeuvring and ship handling principles.

This unit builds on the knowledge gained in year 1 and meets the learning outcomes set out in Table A -II/1 of STCW 2010 and detailed in the Maritime Training Package MAR50315 .

Teaching Pattern
  • Blended delivery in the form of lectures and online learning supplemented with consolidated face to face learning towards the end of semester and
  • Mandatory practical training in a simulated ship environment.

Students attending classes and students electing to study on flexible mode will follow the same class time table. Total lecturing hours have not changed from the existing. Both categories of students will have access to the same resources through MyLO.

6 hrs / 1/ week for 10 weeks. Total Hrs 60.

30 hrs delivered over last 3 weeks. Total Hrs 30.
