Introduction
On completion of this unit, students will have the knowledge and skills to be able to demonstrate a comprehension of the principles relating to ships stability and seaworthiness and be able to calculate statical stability of a ship while acknowledging the importance of dynamical stability, making sure that the vessel complies with the IMO stability criteria under all loaded conditions and calculate the vessel's stability for all stages of the intended voyage.
This unit builds on the knowledge gained in year 1 and meets the learning outcomes set out in Table A -II/1 of STCW 2010 and detailed in the Maritime Training Package MAR50315.

| Teaching Pattern | Blended delivery in the form of lectures and online learning supplemented with consolidated fact to face learning towards the end of semester. Students attending classes and students electing to study on flexible mode will follow the same class time table. Total lecturing hours have not changed from the existing. Both categories of students will have access to the same resources through MyLO. Lectures Duration/ Frequency/Time tabling: 6 hrs / 1/ week for 10 weeks. Total Hrs 60. Practicals Duration/ Frequency/Time tabling: 30 hrs delivered over last 3 weeks. Total Hrs 30. Attendance: Recommended for end of semester consolidated teaching period. |
