Introduction
On completion of this unit, students will have the knowledge and skills to use meteorological instruments as a Deck Watch keeper for the safe navigation and operation of the vessel and be able to interpret and record the weather and apply it to watch keeping requirements. This unit also involves a basic understanding of the principles relating to the atmosphere, weather forecasting and interpretation of relevant weather data.
This unit builds on the knowledge gained in year 1 and meets the learning outcomes set out in Table A -II/1 of STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments) and detailed in the Maritime Training Package MAR50315.
