Command Operations JND319

Introduction

On completion of this unit, a student will be able to handle large power-driven vessels safely on passage and in and out of port under normal and extreme conditions and in emergencies. The unit incorporates the study and understanding of a vessel's behaviour under varying circumstances and hydrodynamic influences. The student further undergoes training on an approved ship simulator in performing manoeuvres in terms of their appropriateness, effectiveness and limitations.

The unit will build upon the knowledge attained in Navigational Watch-keeping of the second year of study.

This unit meets the requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency set out by the Maritime Training Package MAR60213 of MAR13, the STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments) and Table A-II/2 of the STCW Code.
