Learning Outcomes
- describe and evaluate the main elements of a generic safety assessment
- describe the structure and functions of the international maritime organisation (imo) in the context of maritime safety
- explain the purpose and function of the major imo legal instruments regulating maritime safety including the international convention for the safety of life at sea (solas), the international convention on load lines, and the international regulations for avoiding collisions at sea (colregs)
- discuss the role of the imo and its membership in the elaboration of the major imo legal instruments and summarise the process for amending and updating these
- describe and evaluate the role of australian and other maritime administrations in regulating maritime safety and implementing relevant international instruments.
