Introduction
This unit develops the student's knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the Marine Superintendent and the management skills that are required for ensuring that the maintenance of all shipboard machinery and equipment is carried out to standards specified by national and international certifying authorities. It covers the management of documentation, reports and other data regarding ship mechanical and electrical equipment, the development of documented processes, procedures and safety instructions, the reporting of audit and inspection findings and the management of employees involved in the marine superintendency process

Learning Outcomes
- Analyse the roles and responsibilities of the Marine Superintendent in the challenging marine work environment
- Explain the commercial and legal aspects of vessel operation with respect to operation and maintenance
- Evaluate methods of monitoring vessel performance to provide appropriate advice, to ship’s Master and ship Managers, to achieve optimum efficiency and economy
- Develop vessel inspection and Dry-docking documentation to ensure Statutory and Class requirements are met.
- Create a budget and manage inventory control for efficient vessel operation and maintenance.
