Introduction

This unit has been designed to provide the learner with the required basic knowledge and skills to contribute for the safe operation of the Ship as a watch keeping Engineer. This unit will provide students with an understanding of the construction, operating principles, and characteristics of the ship's associated auxiliary systems (both Diesel Engines and Steam Turbines) , such as to enable safe and efficient operation at Engineer Watchkeeper level during steady state, transient, and fault conditions. The unit will also provide the basis for further study required by higher qualifications.

This unit meet the requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency set out by the Maritime Training Package MAR 13 Package, the STCW (2010 Manila Amendments) and Table A-III/1 and AIII/2 of the STCW code.
