STEM Communication KAA317

Launceston

Introduction

This unit provides an opportunity for students to select a topic of interest in an emerging field or application of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) which they research and then communicate to a generalist audience. Students will nominate or be allocated a generalist audience to which they will make an appropriate communication that informs and educates the audience of the emerging field or application of STEM. Audiences may be general community, school groups or school teachers and communications can be in the form of an oral presentation, a poster, an information bulletin, a video, a hands-on session for school students or a workshop for school teachers.
The unit will enable students to develop their skills in gathering, synthesising and critically evaluating information from a range of sources, preparing and delivering a STEM communication that effectively communicates an area or application of STEM to a generalist audience, and the ability to review, reflect and evaluate STEM communication skills.
