Introduction

Visualisation and Fabrication is part of a suite of four units in the degree core of the Bachelor of Architecture and Built Environments and the Spatial Design minor in the Bachelor of Design. These units introduce you to key ideas, principles and practices in spatial and built environment design disciplines.


In this unit you will develop creative design skills in imagining and realising structural solutions for spatial environments combining knowledge of foundational principles with emergent digital technologies and techniques. You will be introduced to a range of digital tools and understand their use and value in the design, visual communication and fabrication of structures. Through collaborative workshop activities and individual self-directed experiments, you will gain knowledge of the structural performance of materials, elements and systems and explore the implications and opportunities for the design of spaces and objects. Working in teams, you will apply this knowledge to a specified design problem using digital fabrication techniques to produce models and prototypes at different scales.
