Introduction
This unit introduces you to the design and prototyping of 3D objects using digital modelling and fabrication techniques. Through hands-on exercises, you will gain knowledge of contemporary additive and subtractive rapid prototyping technologies and develop skills in object design and fabrication with an emphasis on Computer-Aided-Drawing (CAD) and Computer-Aided-Manufacturing (CAM).
You will gain a working knowledge of foundational communication techniques and graphic conventions for object design. With an emphasis on safety, hands-on work will involve an introduction to workshop protocols and safe working procedures. Employing a range of tools and techniques, you will digitally design and fabricate a full-scale prototype of a 3D object in response to a directed brief.
