Courses & Units

Architecture Design Studio 7 KDA711

Design Studio units in the Master of Architecture (MArch) differ from Design Studio units in the Bachelor of Environmental Design (BEnvDes) course in that there is a shifting emphasis toward increasing professionalism in design practice, and increasing expectations that students will demonstrate critical and exploratory thinking in relation to their architectural proposals.

The unit focuses on the design of larger scaled multilevel architectural projects positioned within a critical urban framework that interrogates the political, social and ethical basis of propositions, particularly as they relate to use of space.

There is an emphasis on the relationship between function, purpose, systems, structure, and materiality, and the application of urban design thinking at the micro scale. There is also a focus on exploring environmentally sustainable design strategies and hybrid (active and passive) technologies in conjunction with the studio component of KDA 713 Building Technology in Design 7.

Please check that your computer meets the minimum System Requirements if you are attending via Distance/Off-Campus.

Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.

Special approval is required for enrolment into TNE Program units.
