Courses & Units

Architecture Design Studio 8 KDA721

Launceston

Note:

Introduction

Design Studio units in the MArch differ from Design Studio units in the BEnvDes course in that there is a shift in emphasis toward increasing professionalism and new technologies in design practice, and increasing expectations that students will demonstrate both critical and exploratory thinking in relation to their architectural proposals.

The unit offers students the opportunity to pursue areas of interest within a series of 'selective' streams that engage speculative thinking with diverse contemporary and emerging practices in the field of architecture and design. Selective offerings will be identified on a year-by-year basis drawing on staff expertise and research interests as well as the focus of the school on environmentally and socially responsive design, inter-disciplinary design thinking and learning-by-making. Topics range from digital parametric design to humanitarian projects and intersection between art and architecture. Although selective streams will operate independently, they will be centrally coordinated and integrated through a core lecture series.
