Hobart

Introduction

The Honours course in Geology at the University of Tasmania runs over a period of 40 weeks. Coursework components vary depending on the individual, and may include units taken within or outside the Discipline of Earth Sciences.   The course is accredited by the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Enrolment consists of four 25% units as follows:  KEA425, KEA426, KEA427 and KEA428.

Requisites

KEA304, KEA306, KEA308, KEA310 (either geology project or marine geoscience project). Unit may be taken if one pre-requisition is missing provided that pre-requisition is achieved in coursework in the honours year.  This does not include KEA310 which must be completed in the course of the undergraduate degree. It is strongly recommended that students planning to enrol into a marine geosciences project complete an elective unit KEA270 Marine Geosciences.

Assessment

Research project presented as a thesis (65%), coursework (25%), seminars (5%), reading essay (4%), research plan (0.25%) and research plan presentation (0.75%). Satisfactory performance is required in all areas.
