Introduction

This unit considers strategies to sample, understand, and address geoconservation and geotourism issues. By way of a series of field-based and problem-based learning experiences, you will develop the skills and knowledge to conduct and curate (geo)heritage inventories, assess prospective sites for use as geotouristic and geoeducational purposes, and propose new geotouristic experiences.

In this unit, we focus on developing your potential. Diverse field and case study examples are used in this unit to provide you with the level of understanding of geomorphology essential to properly inform environmental decision-making in geotouristic settings. You are learning by doing. You will be encouraged to make decisions. You will interact with professionals and laypersons, not all of who will be ‘on your side’ or who will (instantly) understand your recommendations. We are here to guide and mentor you through these (sometimes) challenging experiences, in a supportive environment.

Admission into a Masters course OR 1 x 12.5 CP second year unit at undergraduate level

Teaching Pattern

On campus: 2 hour lectures weekly; 3  x 2hr tutorials, 6 x 2 hour field practical sessions and 1 x 3 day field excursion

Off campus:  2 hour lectures weekly; 3 x 2hr tutorials, on-campus 2 day intensive training workshop immediately followed by a 3 day whole of class camp
