Server Administration and Security Assurance KIT304
Introduction
This unit will provide students with a general introduction to system administration, and is comprised of four modules that explore the role of an administrator in modern business settings. The four modules cover Unix administration, Windows administration, web, database and container administration, and administration issues relevant to network security. Within the modules, topics include user and group creation, access control, permissions, scripting, resource management, configuration management, system security, vulnerabilities and vulnerability assessment, and network security. On completion, students will be equipped to administer computer systems that meet business requirements for functionality, capacity, availability, reliability, and security.

| Teaching Pattern | Lectures: 1 hr/wk Tutorials: 4 hrs/wk - This unit will only offer on-campus tutorials. In the enrolment system, these appear as a two-hour tutorial, and a two-hour practical, each week. Students are required to enrol in each of these offerings. Independent Learning: 1x1 hr/wk (on average) For this unit, students are expected to attend lectures (online) and on-campus lab classes and are expected to remain up-to-date with content they may miss due to illness or other unexpected circumstances. |
