ICT R&D Project 3 KIT310

Introduction

The objective of the unit is to develop within the student a desire to undertake a career in research. The project will provide a taster for Honours. Students will develop an understanding of the scientific research method, practical research skills, and practical design and development skills in a research environment.

Students are working on a research project during a minimum 6-week research project period with an identified supervisor. In this unit students will have the opportunity to experience research at different levels (depending on level of unit) before graduation. This will give students the opportunity to plan on how to best take advantage of their remaining studies to prepare for a career in research. The students are able to develop their critical analysis and problem solving skills, experience the research environment and obtain feedback from a supervisor on their performance.

A KIT310 project is likely to be a significant research project that has either been identified by the students themselves or by a researcher. Students are expected to prepare a research proposal or plan, conduct research and data analysis.

The focus of such projects will be on adding knowledge to the research topic addressed, either through providing new insights into the problem, proposal of a novel approach or algorithm, or the development of an artifact necessary for the advancement of the research in the area with the student having a significant level of participation in developing the research proposal and conducting the research.
