Hobart

Note:

Students must have a research project before census date to remain enrolled in the unit.

Introduction

To develop within the student a desire to undertake a career in research. The projects will provide a taster for honours with substantial research projects requiring a proposal, a plan, a mini-literature review and significant outputs. Students will develop an understanding of the scientific research method, practical research skills, and practical design and development skills in a research environment.

Students will undertake a substantial project, usually as part of a team of students or based within a research group in the school, university (eg HITLab, SenseT) or external industrial research Organisation (eg CSIRO, AAD). A variety of projects will be made available to the student. Students may negotiate to pursue a project of their own but they will need to find a staff member willing to act as a supervisor. While projects will be of a research nature, they will include the need to develop artifacts (eg hardware, software). Students will need to develop a research proposal and plan in conjunction with their supervisor. Students will also need to complete a research paper or poster to the quality required for submission to a conference or journal.

Students enrolled in R&D units will be invited to attend the research seminars
