Introduction
This unit aims to present a coherent view on the role of information and knowledge in organisations from a multidisciplinary perspective. Students gain an appreciation of the sources of information, unstructured and semi-structured knowledge and learn current techniques that permit knowledge and information to be applied to perform organisational activities. The unit presents a comprehensive model of the information and knowledge and management process from organisational and technological perspectives. Students will have an opportunity to explore current approaches to information and knowledge management in the context of a real organisation.
This unit provides students with the skills and knowledge relating to the use of latest technologies for managing information and knowledge, electronic documents and records to meet the needs of individuals, work groups and organisations. The unit aims to build a general understanding of technologies for managing personal and organisational structured and unstructured information and knowledge and the methods of developing systems to handle it.
