Issues covered include: management of salinity, soil drainage design, soil water retention and irrigation principles, soil biology, erosion control, and soil chemical processes. The unit involves field description and sampling of several soil profiles. The soil profiles are then analysed as a class exercise and interpretations and soil management plans are developed.
