Introduction

There are multiple perspectives from which you can analyse an industry; this unit will inform students about industry analysis, from the perspective of an advisor or a consultant, with a view to adoption for practice change.

It will provide the foundations to access relevant financial, marketing, production and human resource management information to aid in decision making, technology adoption and management of risk. Through case-studies students will gain an appreciation for reviewing the economic, political and market factors that influence the way agricultural industries develop, by considering the industry's past trends, demand-supply mechanics and future outlook.

The unit provides students with an understanding of how the theory and practice of extension can influence adoption. It will consider the role of adult education, barriers to participation and how research and demonstration can influence early adopters. 

There will be an emphasis on evaluating an industry to identify how advisors can provide support to clients. This will help to identify opportunities, and facilitate planned changes to the enterprise, by assisting in the development of clear objectives and bringing in the necessary experts and change agents.
