Introduction
Introduces Master of Applied Science students to the principles and practices of management of plant diseases, pests and weeds. Modules of teaching within the unit will include: (1) Pest and Disease Monitoring and Decision Making, (2) Chemicals in Crop Protection, (3) Cultural Control and Host Plant Resistance, (4) Biological Control, and (5) Integrated Pest Management.
Students will also be expected to complete additional assignments/tutorials in selected research areas to enhance their depth of understanding in these areas.
In addition to general course content, students are expected to undertake prescribed reading at an advanced level on recent developments in crop protection and to incorporate this knowledge in their theory examination.
