Introduction
The purpose of the unit is to provide students with an introduction to the ocean, its environments and how they function, including: Geological aspects of ocean basins, the seafloor and marine sediments; Physical processes, including ocean currents and waves; Chemical processes such as elemental cycles; Biological processes including ocean productivity and pelagic ecosystems; Ocean ecosystems and their susceptibility to change, and the role of the ocean in climate and global climate change.
