Introduction
This unit will give students an understanding of the historical, geographical, scientific, political and legal context of the oceans and Antarctica. It includes introductory lectures on the scientific processes at work in the marine and Antarctic environments, applied science, and legal and policy issues such as the protection and preservation of the marine environment and the unique political and legal situation existing in Antarctica. Students will be asked to use this information to analyse current polar and marine issues.
