Introduction
This unit provides a comprehensive account of the biology of birds and mammals that inhabit the Southern Ocean (loosely defined here as waters from Southern Australia to Antarctica), and the role that they play in the marine ecosystem. Topics covered in the unit include taxonomy, physiology, ecology, conservation and management, with an emphasis on integrating these issues within a broader ecological framework. The unit is an intensive 2 week course consisting of 20 hours of lectures and a 5-day field component.

Teaching Pattern | 15 days intensive, with 20 lectures and a 5-day field course to Bruny Island in week 2. Several assignments will be due in post-course dates. The contact dates for this year's course are 14-28 November. Field trip dates are 19-23 November. |
