Introduction
Fisheries assessment is a critical component of monitoring and managing fishery harvests. This advanced unit provides students with a detailed understanding of the quantitative techniques employed in the assessment of fished stocks. The unit covers fishery dependent and fishery independent data and its use in fisheries modelling, mortality estimation, biomass and yield modelling, stock-recruitment relationships and predictive fisheries risk assessments.

- Develop quantitative models for the assessment of fished stocks using Excel 2016.
- Recommend management strategies that enable the sustainable harvest of fished stocks based on applied stock assessments.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of regulatory controls to maintain the sustainability of fished stocks.
