TCotA Forum welcomes all students and members of the public.

Spiros PanigirakisSpiros Panigirakis is interested in how presentational devices, furniture and organisational frameworks influence the construction of meaning, form and sociability. He often works with groups in both a curatorial and collaborative capacity to address the sited conditions of art. He was part of the founding committee of the artist-run initiative CLUBSproject Inc. He recently exhibited MOORABBIN (2014) at Federation Square for the Melbourne Prize, Garden States (2013) in Melbourne Now at the NGV, curated raft (2013) at Craft Victoria and has written for UN magazine and the Enjoy journal Public Good: Itinerant Responses to Collective Space. Panigirakis is a lecturer at MADA - the Faculty of Art Design and Architecture, Monash University. He is represented by Sarah Scout, Melbourne.

Spiros Panigirakis will discuss the project FEEDBACK (hosted by the Plimsoll Enquiry) in relation to recent artistic discourse engaging and borrowing from the field of Education. Spiros often wonders if he could have admitted to his 2002 year eight metal-work class that he lacked welding experience and that this condition could have created an opportunity for the class to engage their mutual ignorance productively? In the forum Spiros will speculate on why this interest in the sociology of pedagogy has arisen in the last few years? It's curious to him that whilst "contemporary art" is getting excited at the prospect that a gallery might look like a classroom, the field is not stopping to look at its own complicity in the convergence of artistic production and education – not stopping to attend to the specificities of the actual educational environment in which artists are increasingly involved with.
