Jeremy Shaw

Jeremy Shaw explores altered mental states, focusing on the aesthetic and scientific valences of psychedelics. The Berlin-based Canadian artist and film-maker works primarily in video and Kirlian photography—a technique used to capture electrical discharges.

Shaw’s work hints at a visual affinity between the art and science of drug research and highlights the difficulty of creating an optic record of an experience, especially one beyond the usual register.

For this special SOCA Dark Mofo edition of Art Forum, Shaw will be in conversation to discuss his practice and recent work Liminals, which continues his fascination with movement, altered states and transcendental experience. Liminals will be exhibited as part of Dark Mofo 2018.

Arts Forum is a weekly series of free public lectures held at the School of Creative Arts, Hunter Street Campus, during the semester. The series provides a unique opportunity to hear local, national and international visiting artists, scholars and presenters from diverse sectors of the Creative Arts discuss their area of professional practice. All current students, prospective students, and members of the public are welcome.
