An Open Public Forum - SOCA Arts Forum / Dark Mofo Edition

‘This is not the mining industry, and I am not a fly-in-fly-out worker. I would like to give people the opportunity to discuss and ask questions about this work in an open forum before I head back to Sydney.’

Mike Parr

Mike Parr’s third and final performance at Dark Mofo 2018 UNDERNEATH THE BITUMEN THE ARTIST was conceived to memorialise the victims of twentieth century totalitarian violence in all of its ideological forms, including the shadow cast by the genocidal violence of nineteenth century British colonialism in Australia. The performance enables the public to witness the artist’s ‘disappearance’ under the road, but following the entombment, the road will be returned to familiar use. When the artist exits the container at the conclusion of the performance, concrete will be poured to fuse the chamber and its contents as a time capsule instated for future generations

This special Dark Mofo edition of Art Forum presents an open forum for people to come, discuss and ask questions around UNDERNEATH THE BITUMEN THE ARTIST. The post-performance public forum will be facilitated by Mike Parr, Laura Kroetsch, Greg Lehman and Jarrod Rawlins.
