Strictly Strings Soirée - Dr. Susan Collins

The Academy Gallery in partnership with Cancer Council Tasmania presents Dr Collins performing with the Jan Sedivka Camerata, UTAS Conservatorium's "flagship string ensemble".

Susan gave her professional debut at the age of 14, performing Sarasate's Zigeunerweissen with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in the concert hall of the Sydney Opera House. Since that time, she has recorded many times for radio, and has performed as soloist and recitalist throughout Australia, the USA and Europe. Susan has performed with countless international artists and conductors. She currently performs with Kingfisher Trio, with Duncan Gifford and Sue-Ellen Paulsen, and with Southern Cross Soloists.

Susan's commercially released recordings include Schumann Piano Trios, (ABC Classics) and Raymond Hanson Violin Music (Tall Poppies).

Susan was appointed Deputy Concertmaster of the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra at age 24. Since that time she has accepted engagements as Guest Concertmaster with many orchestras throughout Australia.

In 2003 Susan was awarded the Australian Centenary Medal for "contribution to Australian society through opera and ballet, and in 2009 was awarded an Australian College of Educators "Teacher Recognition Award".

Susan has taught at Sydney and Newcastle conservatoria, and is currently Head of Strings and Orchestral Music at the University of Tasmania.

The magical Jo Palmer Southern Cross Nightly News media personality and celebrated Launceston identity will be the Special Guest MC for this Cancer Council Tasmania fund raiser.

The soiree night will also include a special performance of Residue by Launceston's theatrical group Persona Collective. The night will also a Cancer Council Tasmania auction fund raiser of donated artworks and other special offerings!

The Academy Gallery 2016 Music Program is presented in partnership with the Conservatorium of Music, University of Tasmania.
