Contemporary research is dominated by the use of visual objects and physical material to excite, inform, provoke and challenge. Treasures from the University of Tasmania Collections showcases the high quality and rich research resources held by the University of Tasmania. The exhibition aims to bring to public attention the diversity of research material held by the University of Tasmania. Treasures displays the beautiful, the precious, the odd, the unusual, the subtle and significant that is used by our University academics as vehicle for Object Based Teaching and Learning. The University of Tasmania has a diverse holding of research material that includes the Fine Art and Classical Antiquities Collections, but also medicine, pharmacy, geology and engineering & Australian Maritime College – to name a few.

The Collections held by the University of Tasmania represent a major academic resource for the University, Tasmania and the nation. Our University Collections are “treasures” that encompass the variable of academic research, visual creativity and object based teaching and learning deliverables. Importantly the Collections contain items of Australian and international significance. Our Collections speak to the past and project to a future that combine the arts and sciences.
