The Exhibition is the culmination of the Jansz ‘Women, Art, Business’ Artist Residency, which aims to give an emerging female artist in Tasmania the opportunity to develop their practice and to participate in encouraging young women from regional schools to consider the potential of learning, creating and understanding art within a supportive environment.
Works on show include a body of work created as part of the Residency by Anna van Stralen, the artist awarded the Residency, as well as works by female students from the participating high schools: Lilydale District, Scottsdale and Port Dalrymple. Ms van Stralen worked with the students for four weeks to guide and encourage the creative process.
The Residency is funded by the Office of the PVC, Community, Partnerships & Regional Development which seeks to stimulate interest and engagement with issues of social and community concern, provide a productive experience for an artist, positive outcomes for other stakeholders; and to add to the knowledge around the cultural value of artist residencies.
