In this special Art Forum, TCotA PhD candidates MEGAN WALCH and ANNALISE REES, will discuss their recently completed practice-led projects, currently on exhibition in the Plimsoll Gallery and officially opening Friday 24th March at 5.30pm.

Megan Walch’s PhD project The Suspension of Pictorial Equilibrium: Mutability Materialised in the Medium of Paint explores paint’s fluid, plastic and viscous properties to renegotiate aspects of the painterly tradition in this studio-based research project. The mark of success for the paintings is their ability to sustain a lack of pictorial equilibrium, and the ultimate ambition is that, in the gallery situation, they effect an arrhythmic attraction and repulsion, making the viewer the very subject of distortion and suspension.

Annalise Rees PhD project Navigating the unknown: Place, space and drawing focuses on manual drawing as an important field of experiential practice increasingly overlooked in our digitally mediated world. Her research interrogates how the unknown may be made physically and cognitively manifest through the explorative practice of drawing and its use as an embodied means of encountering place and space.
