Director of Despard Galley

Steven Joyce is the Director of Despard Galley in Salamanca and has been a strong force in the commercial gallery arena for over 30 years. He is passionate about the artists he represents. His ongoing support and mentorship has seen some of Tasmania's artist reach national and international acclaim.

Despard Gallery has led the way for contemporary arts practice through an extensive exhibition program, including large scale international exhibitions in New York and Chicago. Steven will share his experiences of gallery life, in particular the move of his gallery from street level to a revived first floor premise, and to now being a big player in the art fair circuit. Steven will reflect on Despard's history and his observations of young upcoming and emerging contemporary artists and his philosophical considerations when inviting artists to exhibit.
