Brachyscome is
a widespread, common and conspicuous genus of native daisies. There
are twelve species in Tasmania. Species occur in virtually all open habitats
in Tasmania except saltmarsh. Habits range from rosettes with flat
leaves, rosettes with grass-like leaves, to upright herbs. The
flowers have no pappus, or a very short one, and the ovaries (and
fruit) are flattened, often surrounded with a wing or a thickened
ridge. Paquerina graminea and Allittia cardiocarpa were
previously known as B.
graminea and B. cardiocarpa respectively. They
resemble Brachyscome species in many ways and are included in following key. |
