Tasmania has at
least six introduced species of Silene.
These include some very common garden and agricultural weeds (such
as S. gallica [French Catchfly] and S. nocturna [Mediterranean
Catchfly]). Flowers produced in winter can be cleistogamous (i.e.
not opening, and having very reduced petals).
