Eleocharis (Cyperaceae) 4b:106 |

Tasmania has
four native species of Eleocharis. These are all erect
aquatic or subaquatic perennial herbs. The inflorescence is quite
distinctive - an erect, cylindrical stem topped by a compact,
cylindrical or conical spike that is only about as wide as the stem
(without a leafy bract extending up the stem). The flowers are
hermaphrodite, but the stamens are exposed at a different time from
the styles, so that the inflorescences look like they are unisexual. |
